The
Story of
Can
Ch Banchory Backstreet Blues

She was
born at Banchory on October 17, 1976.
One
of the first litters sired
by

BIS BISS Am Can Ch Banchory Backstop
ROM/ROMC
(Banchory Reflection ROM ex Banchory Foxy
Lady)
out
of the proven
producer

Clan Duncan Banchory Bluette
(BISS
Am Can Ch Cherden Sock It To 'Em ROM ex
Banchory Half Moon)
dam
of one of Banchory's most influential sires

BISS
Am
Ch Banchory Thunder Blue ROM

At 8 weeks of age, she was brought to Akirene,
to be socialized and trained by a much younger 11 year old Rod Oishi.
She
was named
"Tinsel" due to her mischievous acts
of pulling tinsel from the Christmas tree.

Rod and 'Tinsel'
became an inseparable pair; however he was often
reminded
that
the puppy was only to be at Akirene temporarily.
Despite
the warning, the
blue puppy received his
total attention and devotion.

Banchory Backstreet Blues
was entered for the first time
at the SSC of BC Specialty.
Turning six months to the day,
she was awarded Best In Sweepstakes under Breeder-Judge Lorraine Still.

As
the eldest among Backstop's offspring,
it was decided that Tinsel
should be entered at the upcoming 1976
ASSA
National Specialty
After a great deal of
pleading, it was also decided that Rod could attend as well.
Irene
explained the
importance of the National to her
son.
She explained that the
best shelties from all over North
America would compete.
Due to its importance, the dogs were usually handled by
experienced handlers,
well known breeders
or professional handlers.
Donna would choose the
handlers of her dogs carefully
to
ensure that each would look at its best.
Tinsel would most likely be handled
by Donna or someone else.
Rod realized that while
he would not be able to handle
'Tinsel',
he
would be able to handle their young sable male

Can Ch Akirene's Command
Performance,
(Am Can Ch Banchory The Candidate ex Can
Ch Banchory The Black Rose CD)

As this National was held on the
East Coast, Banchory was selective in choosing
their entries.
They would enter the best of their upcoming
sires in each color:

Banchory Deep Purple

Banchory The Candidate
and

Am Can Ch Banchory Backstop
It was decided that Tinsel would be handled by Donna's husband,
Paul Tidswell.
They placed second in their Futurity class.
Can Ch Akirene's Command
Performance
was handled by Rod.
During their class Donna told
Irene that she should walk around the ringside
to
hear the comments from the ringside.
Not knowing what to expect to
hear,
she was surprised to hear so many positive comments about
her son's skill in handling.
They would take a third
placement in a very strong 9-12 puppy class.
After
the class, Donna took Irene aside to explain that an
error in judgment
had been made when she chose
Paul to handle
'Tinsel'.
Despite their commendable placement,
Paul's inexperience in handling was quite apparent.
The two had not worked
as well together as anticipated.
Donna asked if Rod might agree to handle
Tinsel.
Rod was more than thrilled
to
handle the puppy which he had trained.
Rod took Tinsel into the
ring with confidence and a determined
attitude.
In an entry of 42 puppies under Breeder-Judge Libby Babin
of Babinette

Banchory Backstreet
Blues
won the class.
Upon leaving the ring, Rod handed the blue
rosette and silver bowl to Donna
and said a big smile, "I knew she could do it. She deserved
it!"
Donna smiled and told Rod that from watching the two work
together during the class,
it was obvious that she deserved him!
In an act of generosity, Donna gave Rod an instant co-ownership on Tinsel.

Excitement at this
National only continued to mount
when
Banchory Backstreet
Blues
was pulled out for final
consideration during the Winner's Bitch class.
This was followed by Judge Betty Whelen
of Pocono awarding Best of Breed to
the Oishi's
Am Can Ch Banchory
Backstop
As this National was held in conjunction with the Longshore-Southport KC,

BIS
BISS
Am Can Ch Banchory
Backstop ROM/ROMC
then
went on to win the Working Group under Collie Specialist
Judge John Honig.
Finally he was awarded
his first All Breed Best In Show by Judge E. Howell in an entry of 2,300 dogs!
It was a National to be
remembered!

Banchory Backstreet Blues
returned with her new co-owner
to complete her Canadian
title in a total of 4 shows;
taking a Best of Breed over 5 specials,
a Working Group
Fourth, Best Puppy In Group,
and a Best Puppy In Show.
She was recorded as
Backstop's very first champion offspring.
